As we close another year, I am deeply grateful for each and every one of you who trusts me as a source of news and insight. The Monday Morning Economist has grown remarkably this past year because of readers like you! We started this year with around 3,500 subscribers and I’m excited to share that we’re really close to ending the year with 6,000. We didn’t quite double our numbers like last year, but we sure were close!
This consistent growth is really due to readers like you who take the time to open each newsletter or share your favorite posts on social media. Thank you for being such an important part of this community! I want to send a special thank you to the teachers who have integrated this newsletter into their classrooms and to their students who continue reading even after the semester is over.
As we turn the page to the next chapter, let’s look back at some of our top posts from this past year. You can help this newsletter grow by sharing these posts (or others you love) with friends and family.
The Top Posts in 2024
It’s always fascinating to see which posts resonate the most with all of you. I wrote about a lot of interesting topics this year, including Caitlin Clarke’s economic impact, the superstar effect of a viral pygmy hippo, the monopoly power behind your favorite stadium nachos, and the economics of competitive eating. Your favorites, however, were a lot different! Here’s what the data shows about the posts you read and shared the most this year:
What’s Next for the Newsletter?
I’m constantly thinking about what’s next for the Monday Morning Economist, but my imagination is fairly limited. That’s where I hope you can help me make this platform better! For example, I only recently learned that some of the links I share aren’t accessible accessible to everyone—thank you for pointing this out Shloe! I really am committed to ensuring our resources are accessible, and I’ve already started a list of sites to avoid linking to.
I need you to know that your feedback is crucial—whether it’s about content, accessibility, or new directions to explore. I may not have all the answers, but I’m here to listen. I want this to be an outlet that people are excited to see in their inbox each week. Connect with me on social media, comment on posts, and tell me what topics resonate with you. Substack recognizes and shares articles based on reader engagement (likes and comments), which means you are the key to this newsletter’s success!
Well, you’ve officially made it to the end of this year’s recap. Thank you, again, for all your support. If you have ideas for future topics or just want to say hello, please leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you!
