Hi y’all! Here are five stories from this week that contain some neat applications of economic principles or are related to teaching:

Home sellers are lowering their prices and helping buyers to make a deal in a stagnant market [Associated Press]
Fewer people are flying as airfare soars, but airlines aren’t worried [CNBC]
U.S. worker job engagement hits lowest level since 2011 [CNBC]
Man who identifies as humanist gets religious exemption from using artificial intelligence at work [Gizmodo]
For many Gen Z voters, affordability has risen to the top of their list of concerns heading into midterm elections [MarketWatch]

Every year after Halloween, social media fills with photos of untouched candy bowls and dark streets as proof that trick-or-treating is dying. This week’s article argues that those posts are a textbook case of selection bias. Halloween spending and decades of parent surveys show no collapse. The real story is in the housing market, where aging homeowners and priced-out young families have changed which neighborhoods the kids live in.
